A winter weather system is set to impact the East Coast of the United States this weekend, bringing a mix of snow and freezing rain. While it's still too early to determine the exact areas that will be affected and the amount of precipitation expected, meteorologists are closely monitoring the storm's path.

According to Tony Fracasso, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center, the storm is currently moving through Colorado and New Mexico before heading towards Texas and the Southeast. From there, it will make its way up the East Coast. Fracasso notes that as the storm gets closer, more precise details will become available regarding where the precipitation will fall and how long the cold air will remain.

Last year, major cities like Boston, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia saw very little snow due to a lack of cold air. However, this year's storm could bring a different outcome.

The National Weather Service in New York City has indicated that there is a low probability of snow and sleet in the city over the weekend. Significant snowfall is expected in areas to the west and north of New York City. In fact, this winter has been unusually mild in New York City, with only 2.3 inches (6 centimeters) of snow measured in Central Park so far.

Stay tuned for updates as the storm approaches and remember to take necessary precautions if you live in an affected area.
