Gevo, a leading renewable chemicals and advanced biofuels company, has recently announced a partnership with a subsidiary of McDermott International to provide front-end engineering and early planning services for the construction of multiple sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facilities in North America.
Net Zero 1 Facility
The first facility, called Net Zero 1, will be located near Lake Preston, S.D. This state-of-the-art plant is projected to have the capability to produce 65 million gallons per year of SAF, as well as renewable diesel and gasoline. Gevo's innovative ethanol-to-jet fuel process will be employed in the design of this facility, setting a benchmark for future plants.
Sustainable Energy Sources
In line with their commitment to sustainability, Gevo plans to power the facility using wind energy. Additionally, the thermal energy needs of the plant may be met by utilizing renewable gas from cattle manure, further contributing to a more sustainable production process.
Timetable and Financing
While there is currently no specified timeline for the start of operations at the Net Zero 1 facility, Gevo is actively working on arranging the necessary financing to ensure a successful launch.
